There are so many different types of options out there when it comes to stair lifts that it can be indeed overwhelming. So here are some things that you should look for when purchasing a stair lift.
Measuring and Quotations for Stair Lifts
When purchasing a stair lift a sales person or technician from the stair lift manufacturer will have to come to your home to do measurements of the stairwell as well as learn more about your physical needs. This is a requirement when purchasing a stair lift and if you find a company who will not come out to your home and do proper measurements than it is not a company that you should be doing business with.
When the sales person or technician comes out to your home to do their measurements and learn about your physical needs this also serves as a good time to ask questions you have about the stair lift system they are going to sell you. Be sure you know how much it costs, what the warranty and cost for service is, if they bill insurance companies and most of all get this all in writing. If they do not offer a written quote you should move on to the next company. You should get quotes from several different companies to make sure you are getting the best deal for you.
Here are some good questions you may wish to ask the sales person or technician that comes to your home.
• Will you bill my insurance for this or will I be required to pay out of pocket?
• What scheduled maintenance is required and am I able to perform it on my own or does it require a technician?
• What is the warranty available with the stair lift?
• If it breaks down whom should I contact for service? How much does the service cost?
• What is the weight limit of the stair lift?
• Does it have a backup power source incase power fails and I am stuck upstairs?
• Do they do the installation or are you required to do it yourself or hire a contractor of your own?
It is often a good idea to have a family member with you when meeting with the stair lift company so they can also ask questions as well. It’s important to research all available stair lift systems to find the one that best suits your needs.
